Lynchburg, VA (December 28, 2017) – The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg's 2017 Red Kettle Campaign finished the year raising $237,438. This is more than $12,000 short of the original goal of $250,000. "We are so appreciative of the community's support," stated Capt. Trey Jones. "We had anticipated falling more than $25k short of the goal, but donations on the last two days of the campaign helped us minimize our projected loss."

The Lynchburg Salvation Army is also seeing a drop in overall financial donations made in addition to the Red Kettle Campaign this year. Many of these donations come in during the month of December through online and mailed gifts. Currently, the Lynchburg Salvation Army is estimating a decline in contributions of approximately 30 percent of what was received this time last year.

Last year, The Salvation Army provided more than 32,000 hot meals, 12,000 nights of lodging, and financial assistance to more than 6,000 people. In addition, more than 18,000 gifts were given to children and the elderly through numerous community programs provided by the Lynchburg Salvation Army.
