Lynchburg, VA (December 21,2017) – The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg's Red Kettle Campaign comprises approximately 25 percent of its total annual budget. The Red Kettle goal for 2017 is $250,000. As of Wed., Dec. 20, $204,100 has been collected in the Red Kettle campaign leaving a projected deficit of approximately $25,500. "Funds raised in the Red Kettle Campaign provide the means to help those in need in our community," stated Captain Trey Jones. "We are committed to helping those who need us most and a successful Red Kettle Campaign is an important part of that process."

The Lynchburg Salvation Army is also seeing a drop in overall financial donations made in addition to the Red Kettle Campaign this season . Many of these donations come in during the month of December through online and mailed gifts. Captain Jones shared, "We know it is a busy time of the year and many people are probably still deciding on where to make their charitable donations for the 2017 year. We want them to know that we are expecting to meet some great needs in our community in the coming year and their support is important to us and most appreciated."

Last year, The Salvation Army provided more than 32,000 hot meals, 12,000 nights of lodging, and financial assistance to more than 6,000 people. In addition, more than 18,000 gifts were given to children and the elderly through numerous community programs provided by the Lynchburg Salvation Army.

The Red Kettle Campaign will end this year one day early on Sat., Dec. 23. The Salvation Army will not be ringing on Christmas Eve since it falls on Sunday.
