Lynchburg, VA (January 4, 2019) – The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg's 2018 Red Kettle Campaign finished the year raising $212,396. This is $37,604 short of the original goal of $250,000. "We had anticipated a shortfall due to the loss of ringing locations and changes in national agreements of where and when we could start ringing," stated Capt. Trey Jones. "Our original estimate was a shortfall of more than $45,000, but thanks to the support of our community we were able to minimize the impact to our budget."
The Lynchburg Salvation Army has also seen a drop in general donations this season especially those made with stock gifts. Donations received during the end of 2018 funds programs such as the emergency shelter, community feeding and family services throughout the 2019 calendar year. Last year, The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg provided more than 32,000 hot meals, 12,000 nights of lodging, and met more than 6,000 needs through its family services program.
“The Lynchburg Salvation Army is committed to helping those who need us in the Greater Lynchburg area," stated Capt. Jones. "Our community has always partnered with us to meet the need, and we are confident that God will continue to provide us with the means to help those around us moving forward."
