Lynchburg, VA (October 1, 2018) – Appointments for The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg Angel Tree begins Wed., Oct. 3. Individuals needing assistance must secure an appointment in advance online at www.SalvationArmyLynchburg.org. If they do not have access to a computer or the internet, a computer is available for scheduling appointments at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center located at 2215 Park Avenue. Appointments will take place during the month of October. Online registration of appointments is new for the 2018 season and is designed to give applicants needing assistance more options throughout the day and evening to apply. There are no drop-in signups this year.  All who need Christmas assistance must schedule an appointment in advance to secure a time to sign-up for Angel Tree 2018. Please visit www.SalvationArmyLynchburg.org or The Salvation Army of Lynchburg's Facebook page for a complete list of requirements needed to be eligible for assistance.

The Angel Tree Program for the Salvation Army began in Lynchburg, VA in 1979 and has since expanded into an international movement providing gifts to children whose families are financially struggling during the Christmas season. Last year, more than 18,000 gifts were given to needy children and elderly living in the communities of Lynchburg, Bedford, Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell and Nelson County.

Volunteer opportunities are available during the months of November and December to help with the Angel Tree program. If you would like more information on how you can help by volunteering, please visit the Salvation Army's website or call 434-845-5939. Individuals who volunteer to help with the Angel Tree program are not eligible for application for assistance through the Angel Tree program.

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. Eighty-two cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide. For more information, go to www.salvationarmyusa.org.
