Ring a Bell and Help Those in Need
Lynchburg, VA (November 7, 2016) – The bells are ringing, and The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg needs the community's help. Last year, more than 54,000 hot meals were served, 13,000 nights of lodging were given and more than 6,500 people received financial assistance through The Salvation Army's Center of Hope. In addition, more than 6,000 gifts were given to children and the elderly through the Angel Tree program and members of the community received disaster relief assistance and youth enrichment programs provided by The Salvation Army.
This past year, The Salvation Army's Center of Hope has seen an increase in women, children and the elderly needing shelter and financial assistance. The Center of Hope, which provides the community feeding program, family financial services and the homeless shelter, is funded through donations from the community and the Red Kettle Campaign. In order to meet a growing need in the Greater Lynchburg area, the 2016 Red Kettle goal is to raise $250,000. "Every year The Salvation Army of Lynchburg relies on faithful volunteers and donors to make the annual “Red Kettle” campaign successful," states Corps Captain Donald Dohmann. "Thousands of individuals turn to The Salvation Army though-out the year. I encourage the citizens of our community to give of their time as a volunteer at a “red kettle” location or to cheerfully give when they pass by a “red kettle” this holiday season!"
